Testimony
...or how I came to know Jesus.
Here is my testimony simply put;
I didn't smoke dope
Or cuss at the Pope
Or sleep with a shady lady,
I just walked up to the Pastor
When I was 8 years old and said
"I want Jesus to save me."
When I was little my parents were Christians, if not very committed ones. They went to church when there wasn't a good game on TV or it wasn't inconvenient. One Sunday, when I was 8 years old, we were in church and the preacher gave an alter-call. I heard what he said about Jesus, that I was a sinner and that my sin separated me from God, that I needed a Savior and, Jesus, who had died and been raised from the dead, was that Savior. It all made sense to me, for the first time I guess, so when he said the sinner's prayer I silently repeated it after him. I didn't raise my hand or go to the front, I didn't even tell my parents.
The next week we went to church again and when the preacher gave another alter call, my younger sister told Mom and Dad she wanted to go down there (to the front) and have Jesus in her heart. So they went down and after talking to an elder she prayed with him, accepting what Jesus had done for her and inviting Him unto her heart. As we walked to the car and my parents wiped the tears from their eyes, Daddy asked me what I'd though of what Bridget had just done. My reply was “Oh Daddy! I did that last week!”
I used to think my testimony was really lame and boring. Then one day I was talking to a very wise and godly man. He heard my testimony and at the end he had tears in his eyes. He said "that is one of the best testimonies I've ever heard. It shows you don't have to go through all the "stuff" I went through before you can have a relationship with God." That totally changed my perspective.
Today I can't imagine my life without Jesus. I really can't remember a time when He wasn't there in my heart or a time I couldn't turn to Him. He truly is my best Friend. Oh I struggle and kick and scream at Him, ignore and neglect Him but when I turn back and need Him, He's right there. He is faithful, even when I'm not. Amazing isn't it? I don't know what I would do with out Him, I really don't.
